OAKLANDS ROAD

A new contemporary house that slots in to a tight infill site, replacing a single storey garage and transforming the end-of-terrace site

With the current housing need, we think it is vital to look creatively at these kinds of urban pockets, and at Maack we are developing innovative bespoke homes on undervalued sites.

Our design for this new two-bedroom house utilises the narrow, inconspicuous site to its advantage, creating an elegant, contemporary piece of architecture that has a sleek frontage and opens up inside, making use of the length of the site to allow a flowing living space. A curved rooflight at the front of the house is a visual feature, allowing privacy whilst bringing light in. Inside, rooflights illuminate the space, and at the back, large high-performance windows and sliding doors lead out to the garden.

Our client was very keen to achieve a low impact house, and our design is super sustainable and follows a ‘fabric first’ construction approach, with careful attention to detailing, natural timber finishes and a beautiful green roof to attract wildlife.
