MERLIN CLOSE

Two new, low energy, 3 bedroom family dwellings on the site of a single pre-fab bungalow in Bristol.

This project which is due for completion 2021 is for the demolition the existing pre-fabricated bungalow and construct 2no. detached one and a half storey dwellings with offstreet parking. Each 3 bedroom dwelling has floor area of approximately 105sqm and utilities a simple palette of insulated self coloured render with aluminium / timber composite windows with a zinc tiled roof.

The design will use passive house ‘fabric first’ construction principles to maximise low energy operation. As far as possible it will only include materials and products that minimise negative impacts on the environment. It will have many features that significantly bene t the home and wider environment. The materials and construction will be specified to be as healthy and robust as possible whilst the building itself will seek to reduce resource consumption. This includes water and energy consumption through high levels of insulation, good construction, good natural ventilation and good natural light. The external fabric of the buildings will be highly insulated with excellent airtightness and minimal cold bridging to reduce heat loss.

An MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery) system will provide energy efficient ventilation in summer and winter. The buildings will also allow natural ventilation in the summer to cross ventilate all spaces and cool them at night if required.
