A light bright welcoming space created for a new 24hr secure gym.

This atmospheric new 13,000sqft facility for The Gym Group in Plymouth is full of character and history.

The space was an old interwar factory with a fantastic exposed lightweight steel structure and pitched roof lights. We wanted to retain the natural light and industrial aesthetic for the new gym so the structure was extensively refurbished and space stripped back to create an open plan space with high ceilings and exposed services.

As with all our gym projects the transformation was achieved to an impressively tight programme - under 12 weeks - to provide light bright welcoming space. On time and on budget!

The project was completed just before the lockdown so we weren’t able to open it to the public immediately. We spent a long time during the lockdown working with the team to look at the layouts, equipment and how we can ensure that as much of the kit as possible is available whilst also ensuring the safety of members and adhering to social distancing guidelines. The gym eventually opening in August and since then response has been overwhelming positive about the space and Covid 19 precautions.
