Our Story

In 2013 I left my position as Associate at leading environmental architects Architype. It was a hard decision but I had a dream of setting up an architect developer practice that would help individuals and independent developers deliver small scale sustainable developments.

After a lot of searching we were able to acquire a narrow disused alley in south London. The site was challenging to say the least; which is why other developers had overlooked it. It was only 3m at its widest point, had six party walls, surface-mountedservices and utilities on the party walls, very restricted access and a main sewer running under the middle. Tricky, but not unfeasible. In fact. it was exactly the kind of site that architects are trained to unlock.

You can see the completed house here. It was our first project, and at the time we were so focused on it that I wasn’t sure where the next project would come from.

A neighbour on the street then approached us.She explained that she had failed several times to get planning permission for a small parcel of land she owned.  Impressed by what we had achieved on such an unpromising site she asked if we could help. This was our second project, which you can see here.

Since then we have worked with many clients as well developing more small sites for ourselves.  The experience of finding, acquiring, funding, building, marketing and then selling these developments taught us a lot. We have been our own client, so we understand the aspirations, ambitions and concerns that clients have. And we have the knowledge and experience to help clients to optimise their sites.

We are passionate about building small-scale sustainable developments that unlock the potential of challenging or overlookedland.
